Duration: 1 hour 20 minutes Yes, there is more to it than some rotor blades beating the air into submission and although it may appear a complex topic, Helicopter Aerodynamics is a combination of a handful of very basic physics concepts. A sound understanding of Aerodynamics is not required to fly a Helicopter. However, it allows you to become a much safer pilot by avoiding altitudes and situations which may be dangerous. Fergus Ponder and Mike Becker dive into the principles behind power settling (VRS or Vortex Ring State), Dynamic Roll-Over and Mast Bumping, (which can happen due to the Pilot inducing a negative G manoeuvre).
